It's taken a lot of hard work but we are so proud and excited to announce that we are now a Certified B Corporation!
This has been a goal for us from day one, particularly for our Co-Founder Ami who has worked tirelessly on making this dream a reality. We asked Ami to give you a bit of an insight into why this achievement is so important to her and Pleasant State.
"Throughout my MBA and entrepreneurship studies I was curious as to why we never covered how to build an ethical start-up business to ensure that no matter how big the company got, it always made decisions with people and planet front of mind.
From the outset when setting up Pleasant State I looked for some form of ethical model to use as the basis for Pleasant State’s business model and the best option I came across was B Corp. As a result we live and breath B Corp principles daily at Pleasant State so achieving certification is a proud moment for me and the team.” - Ami
What is a Certified B Corp?
Certified B Corporations, or B Corps, are companies verified by B Lab to meet the highest standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability.
The B Corp Movement
The B Corp movement is a global movement of people using business as a force for good. Together, they are shifting our economic system from profiting only the few to benefitting all, from concentrating wealth and power to ensuring equity, from extraction to regeneration and from prioritizing individualism to embracing interdependence.
What is B Lab?
B Lab is the nonprofit network transforming the global economy to benefit all people, communities, and the planet. B Lab creates standards, policies, tools, and programs that shift the behavior, culture, and structure of capitalism. B Lab mobilize the global B Corp community towards collective action to address society’s most critical challenges, and they collaborate with governments, academia, coalitions, and other institutions to drive economic systems change.
What are the B Lab standards?
B Lab’s social and environmental business standards define how businesses can be a force for good. Based on stakeholder input, research, and established best practices, these standards are the basis for B Corp Certification requirements and B Lab’s impact management tools, and they inform the network’s programs and collective action initiatives. Overseen by B Lab’s independent Standards Advisory Council, the standards help companies improve, measure, and manage their impact on people and the planet.
