5 Sustainable Ways to Celebrate Plastic Free July In 2024

July 05, 2024

Each year, millions of eco-conscious individuals participate in Plastic Free July - a global movement that works towards creating a plastic-free world. Whether you’re a Plastic Free July veteran or a first-timer, there’s never been a better time to go zero waste

There’s a reason we don’t all live plastic-free lives every day, it’s because it can be difficult to find practical and affordable alternatives. That’s why we’ve created this list of Plastic Free July tips.  To succeed in going plastic-free this month, turn them into habits that will become your more sustainable lifestyle!

As with anything a bit challenging, preparation is key. Here at Pleasant State, we believe in setting realistic goals and not beating ourselves up should we slip now and then. After all, we’re only human!

But Plastic Free July is a little different. It’s an opportunity for us to get out of our comfort zones and challenge ourselves for 1 month! So here are our top tips for nailing plastic-free living in 2024!

Tip 1 - Sign up for the Plastic Free July challenge

Make sure you sign up to take the Plastic Free July challenge! They’ll provide you with helpful tips and tricks throughout the month. Experts say it takes an average of 21 days to form a habit. For some people, it might take longer or even shorter. So if you find it hard to stick to a routine, these regular reminders will help keep you on track.

Tip 2 - Start a waste audit

Not sure which plastics you need to eliminate or how to reduce plastic consumption at home, at work, or within your community? Try this pesky plastics quiz tool and discover the types of plastics sneaking into your home! You’ll be surprised at how easy it is for plastic to find its way into your grocery shopping.

Tip 3 - Switch to zero-waste essentials

Stop buying plastic water bottles and choose sustainable, refillable water bottle options like Frank Green. They make premium reusable cups and water bottles that are beautiful, functional, and great for the planet. Another sustainable brand worth checking out is  Go For Zero. They have great options for eco-friendly skincare, makeup, and home care products.

If you have been with us from the beginning, you know that we’re on a mission to stop the use of toxic, single-use plastic cleaning products at home. That’s why we made our range of ridiculously good-looking just-add-water cleaning products!  Switching to more sustainable products makes a life-changing impact on people and the planet.

Tip 4 - Be adventurous, start experimenting

Whether it’s making your own almond milk, picking berries from a local farm, or finding a new bulk foods store. Plastic Free July is an opportunity for you to try new things and learn new skills that you can incorporate into your life beyond Plastic Free July.

Tip 5 - Inspire others to multiply your impact

Maybe it’s a partner, your housemate, or a friend! It’s so much easier when the people around you support you. That way you can bounce ideas off each other, back each other up when you have strange requests at the supermarket and have someone other than yourself to hold you accountable.

Share your journey, whether in person or on social media and inspire others to join in this global movement that transforms lives and cares for the planet for the years to come.
